    Every year in mid- May, the incredible European Night of museums takes place. Night of the museums is an event where museums in many parts of Europe and even the world stay open late to encourage people to visit them. The event was created six years ago in France with the support of UNESCO, but the first event was held in Berlin in 1997. With the support of UNESCO more than 2000 museums around Europe take part in this unique event.

    A great place to experience this event is in the beautiful city of Barcelona. A particularly good way to discover the city is by exploring the middle-aged streets which house some of the beautiful museums Barcelona has to offer.

    In Barcelona there is something for all tastes, here is a list of all the museums that our well worth visiting during your trip to Barcelona:

    Cubist, modernist and postmodernist? Museo Picasso, Fundació Joan Miró, MACBA, Fundacion Alorda Derksen
    Anthropologist, traveller and ethnologist? Museu Barbier–Mueller d’Art Precolombì, Museu Etnologìc.
    Historic and archeologic? Museu d’Historia di Barcellona e della Catalogna, Museu d’Arqueología de Catalunya, Museu Egipci.
    Naturalistic, idyllic and bucolic? Museu de Ciènces Naturals, Jardí Botànic, Museu Agbar de les aigües.
    Photographer and designer? Fondació Foto Colectania, Disseny HUB, Museu Marítim de Barcelona.

    For further information please refer to the Ajuntament de Barcelona website (although it’s in Spanish) many of the museums have organised big events for the night. Which are sure to be unique and special. Many events include; Concerts, exhibitions, guided tours, Interactive shows and magicians. There will also be an illusionist at CosmoCaixa (one of the most popular and visited museums in Barcelona), a jazz concert at Caixaforum, kids activities and guided tours at Fundació Antoni Tàpies, You can see Pasolini’s film screenings at Fundació Arranz-Bravo, astronomic observations at the Museu Can Tinturé, and many other exhibitions.
